What does the free bridal consultation involve?
We always like to offer a free consultation to all our potential clients. This gives us the chance to get to know each other a little better. The consultation allows the opportunity to answer any questions you may have, discuss your wedding day fully and for you to share any special requirements. We are aware that every bride is different; and each wedding is unique so we would like to make sure that we cater to your needs exactly as you wish to make it an extra special experience for you.
Q. How do I make a booking with My Makeup Artist?
To make a booking: Please call or email to check dates and availability. We are taking bookings in advance so early booking is recommended. If you could let us know the following :
• the event date,
• locations (inc. postcode),
• timings (wedding time & be ready time)
• makeup requirements (e.g. numbers within the bridal party requiring makeup / hair)
You don't need to know specifics at this point just a general overview to get an idea of party numbers & locations. Group booking discounts may apply. The more info we have the more accurate the quotation we can supply. To secure the booking we require a £50.00 deposit. (For further info - see payment terms T&Cs).
When should you have a trial?
That's completely up to you. Some brides prefer to have a trial a year in advance and some a month before the big day. At the trial, we take photos and make notes on look and products used so we can re-create the same look on your wedding day. We make sure you are 100% happy with your look so all you need to do on the day is sit back and enjoy being pampered.
What do you need for your trial?
Any references or images (e.g. web or magazine tear sheets) are very helpful when expressing ideas. However if you have no idea we can guide you. We bring everything with us. We have a Makeup Bible with references and makeup ideas so we can discuss with visuals to help create the perfect look for you. We have complete professional kits and have full comprehensive insurance.
If you have a trial does this mean you will get the same artist for the wedding day?
Yes, all bookings are with Shell Sullivan (My Makeup Artist, Director) personally unless otherwise stated and agreed. My Makeup Artist has a pro-team of select Artists that we sometimes call upon for larger bookings. Whoever, does your trial will be there on your wedding day guaranteed. We always make sure that you are 100% satisfied at your trial.
If you book a trial do you then have to go ahead with the wedding day?
Once a trial date is booked, we will pencil your wedding date in the My Makeup Artist booking diary. Within a 7 day period of the trial you can let us know if you would like to confirm your wedding date with us. If you would like to confirm the booking then we require a payment to hold the wedding date. (50% of the total balance as a deposit. The remaining balance is then due either via bank transfer in advance of the wedding date or as cash on the day). (For further info - see payment terms T&Cs).
When is a deposit taken?
Deposit is taken before the trial to secure the trial date. This is a £50 non refundable deposit that comes off your trial price. The remainder of the trial must be paid in advance of the trial via bank transfer or as cash on the day to your artist on arrival.
How do I pay?
Full payment Information is outlined on the quotation. Either as a bank transfer before the trial/wedding date or as cash to artist on the day. The method of payment needs to be agreed with us directly beforehand.
Do we have a list of products used at the trial?
You will get the name of the lip colour used and also the powder for retouches. We do not give a full list of products. We only supply the full list of products at a makeup lesson not a trial.
Are lashes included in the price?
We do supply individual lash inserts with no charge. Strip lashes are an additional £10 to cover the cost of the lashes and application. We are happy to apply your own strip lashes at no additional cost if you wish.
Is there any cost for travel and where do we travel to?
We are more happy to travel to locations both within the UK and Internationally. Travel within a 20 mile radius of My Makeup Artist HQ (Bucks) is included and free of charge. For weddings where the artist has to travel more than a 20 mile radius, we charge 50p per mile milage costs. Any travel costs will be calculated and added to the initial quotation.
I have lots of bridesmaids, are you able to do everyone?
Depending on the time of your ceremony and the time you wish to start getting ready, a makeup assistant can be arranged for the day to help accommodate large party numbers, this will not affect the cost of your day.
Which brands/products do My Makeup Artist use?
Unlike visiting a store counter, we advise and make suggestions for the best products that are right for you and not brand specific. We conduct a skin analysis at your trial to assess your skin type and we only use products and skin care best suited to your skin type, whilst taking into consideration your preferred choice of products also. We have a wide selection of luxury and designer products.
These include - Chantecaille, Becca, Tom Ford, Kevyn Aucoin, Charlotte Tilbury, By Terry, Nars, Armani, Dior, YSL, MAC, Stilla, Laura Mercier, Benefit, Bobbi Brown and Shu Uemura.
I have sensitive skin so am a bit worried about using makeup?
We only use products that have been allergy tested and the products we use on sensitive skin are both fragrance and alcohol free. During the consultation, we discuss your general skincare routine, check for any previous reactions or skin complaints. We ensure that anything you have reacted to before is never used. We have worked with many clients with differing problematic skin disorders and we always take great care in selecting the right products to help counteract these.
I've never worn makeup before and have no idea what will suit me. Will you help advise me on what makeover look I should have?
Yes, If you are new to makeup then we will ease you gently into the world of makeup and teach you the basics. We can show you how to create a beautiful, natural look and we can advise exactly what products and colours will suit you. If you know what you want, we will listen and create the look, ensuring a perfect result every time. On your trial, we will bring a selection of makeup images to help discuss and create your preferred look.

What is the difference between traditional makeup application and airbrush?
Traditional makeup application - involves applying products with brushes, sponges and fingers. This method allows us to use a range of designer products. We can apply these in varying ways to create a variety different finishes and to change your overall look. The foundation is always well buffed into the skin, leaving a guaranteed flawless finish and staying power to last long into the evening. Some of brands we use include: Chantecaille, Becca, Tom Ford, Kevyn Aucoin, Charlotte Tilbury, By Terry, Nars, Armani, Dior, YSL, MAC, Laura Mercier, Stilla, Bobbi Brown and Shu Uemura.
The airbrush application - is a fine mist of foundation (Temptu) which is sprayed onto the skin using an airbrush gun and compressor. This technique was first used by Makeup Artists in the 1960's cinematic industry and has become a staple favourite in the entertainment arena today. Airbrush has become more popular recently with the advent of High Definition television (HD).
Both methods of application offer a great result and can last anywhere from 12-24 hours.

Do you offer bridal makeup lessons?
Yes, we do offer bridal makeup lessons to clients. These are a popular choice for brides getting married abroad or for those brides with an interest in makeup, looking to develop their own makeup skills and product knowledge. (see the lesson plans for further info)
What's the difference between a makeover and lesson?
During the makeup lesson, we will show you a range of products and how to best use them, selecting the right tools as we go. You can have a play with the products, learn new techniques and ask any questions during the process. We will provide you with a full face chart and product list to keep. Whereas, the makeover service involves us designing and creating the prefect look for your special occasion. The makeup will be applied by us and we will guarantee to transform you to your complete satisfaction. We don't give a full product list for this service.
